For many people, the phrase ‘healthy lifestyle’ is a synonym for chomping down on endless meals consisting of green leafy vegetables followed by hours of hectic exercise at the local gym.

But it does not always have to be this way. In fact, you can actually enjoy a thoroughly healthy lifestyle  simply by following a few basic tips and pointers:

o   Walk More If You Can

If you walk to work instead of taking your car, you will be able to see some great results pretty soon. There are certain things you can do in order to incorporate some light but healthy exercises in your daily routine

  • Two sets of push-ups when you wake up. It does not have to be 100 reps each. You can start with two reps and then increase them as your endurance levels increase.
  • Instead of mass mailing the entire department, simply walk to your colleagues’ cubicles and give them the information verbally.
  • No need to use your office parking, if you can park a few blocks away and simply walk to work.
  • Never use the elevator if there is a staircase available.
  • Give the hired help a day off so that you can indulge in some spring cleaning.
  • Indulge in gardening every weekend. It is not only relaxing but, if you start growing your own fruits and vegetables, you will also be able to enjoy their fresh goodness every day.
  •  Always walk your dog yourself.
  • Try to play ball or running games with your kids

Here, it pertinent to note that every last bit counts for a lot. And if you are already suffering from excess weight, even losing as little as five percent can certainly make a lot of difference to your overall health and wellbeing.

o   Avoid Processed Food Items

There is a single rule of thumb here. The more you process the food item, the greater will be the count of empty calories, which offer little or no nutritious value. You can try swapping your white rice with the brown variety and do the same for your white bread, as well. If you really want to maintain your health, you should always try and cook and eat at home as much as possible. Factory processed food contains a lot of harmful additives and has low nutritional value, most of the time.

o   Conclusion

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not all hard work and no fun. On the contrary, it just calls for a bit of common sense and the right selection of the food that you eat. If you really want to remain healthy, just take everything in moderation.
