Date: July 25th, 2020

The Tattoo Shop in Niles and Bloodborne Pathogens

Recently a Tattoo Shop in Niles was closed for OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Violations. The health officers alleged that the famous Tattoo & Piercing hub has been engaging in “unsafe and unsanitary practices” as regards to the sharps they use on customers.

Here’s how the story appeared on ABC News on Mar 3, 2020.

The Berrien County Health Department said Tuesday that it has identified “unsafe and unsanitary” piercing practices at Paparazzi Tattoo & Body Piercing in Niles.

The practices may have exposed former customers to the blood of other customers, the health department said.

As a precaution, the health department is asking that customers who have ever received body piercings at the shop to undergo blood tests for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV.

Tracing the Corona Virus to its Source

You may think Professor Gabriel Leung from Hong Kong is a pessimist for predicting the figures you are about to hear until you discover more about him.

“40, 50, even 60 percent…” is his response to the question of how far the virus could impact the world when speaking in a documentary by 60 Minutes, an Australian investigative program.

That translates to anything between 45 to 60 million, given its transmission rate and the fact that people continue to mingle on a daily basis.

And the man (Prof. Leung) is not mad having been on the forefront to fighting SARS back in 2002.

Still the World Health Organization (WHO) won’t declare Corona Virus a Pandemic which has raised reaction among critics citing the Chinese government as an obstacle.

But the Professor is positive that maybe it is not the right time to go public with such an announcement.

A Michigan Health Department Crackdown Finds Unsafe Practices in a Body Piercing Shop: Are You Safe?

Cracking Down on Unsafe and Unsanitary Body Piercing Practices

Niles, Michigan, in the dying embers of February 2020.It was business as usual at the Paparazzi Tattoo & Body Piercing Shop until health officers from the Berrien County Health Department (BCHD) crashed the party and brought everything to a halt!

The crackdown confirmed the suspicions of the “unsafe and unsanitary practices,” at the facility.

And it’s embarrassing to discover that the so-called OSHA bloodborne pathogen compliance law may be merely a thing of the books— and of no concern to service providers.

Body piercing involves the use of sharp objects to puncture the skin in areas— like the ears, eyes, nose, tongue, bellybutton, nipples or even private parts— for beauty purposes. Many tattoo shops offer these services alongside body tattooing.

And in the case of Paparrazzi Tattoo & Body Piercing, the Tattoo section was well in compliance with the law. But most of the shop’s Piercing services (except for ear and nose piercings) were found to be “unsafe and unsanitary.”

Ventilation for Covid-19 Patients

With the increase in the numbers of covid-19 patients, there is a high need for medical equipment such as protective clothing, ventilators, masks and gloves. These items are helpful to both the doctors, nurses and the covid-19 patients in fighting against the pandemic.

The rise in confirmed cases has led to a shortage in materials hence slowing down the war against the deadly virus. The shortage of ventilators is one of the most challenging conditions in this war.

Stages in COVID-19 Treatment

So what’s a ventilator and what does it do. Let’s go through the processes a covid-19 patient passes from infection to recovery. It starts from a fever with a cough and worsens to breathing challenges which would, in extreme circumstances force doctors to use ventilators on patients.

The COVID-19 pandemic is currently causing a standstill in many parts of the world. Economic, social, and religious activities are feeling the negative changes and difficulties associated with the virus. Halting the world’s usual activities is one of the control measures that aim at hindering the spread of COVID-19.

The disease started in Wuhan, China, late last year, and has since then spread across many continents in the world. COVID-19 patients show flu-like symptoms, which worsen with time leading to respiratory failure or a malfunctioning breathing system.

Symptoms can start with a fever, coughs, and sneezes, accompanied with severe headaches.

Such symptoms are mild and frequent in both the flu and common cold. However, the headaches are sharp in the case of COVID-19.

Corona is spread from one person to another through the droplets in the coughs and sneezes of infected people.
