Some cases may be so\ndire that every minute brings the victim closer to losing their life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is where the administration\nof first aid<\/a> comes in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are some of the conditions that require administration of first aid?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us explore some of\nthem and what to do in such emergency situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

1.Cardiac arrest<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When most people think\nof first aid, CPR comes to mind. CPR is given to a person who has had a cardiac\narrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cardiac arrest usually\ncauses the victim to stop breathing. Administration\nof first aid<\/strong>, in this case, is imperative because it only takes 4 minutes\nfor brain death to occur after a person stops breathing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A person who is having\na cardiac arrest may exhibit signs of dizziness, palpitations, shortness of\nbreath, and vomiting. In the worst case scenario, the victim will faint or\nblackout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you see someone in\nthis situation, you should first ask if they are okay, ensure they are on a\nfirm flat surface and start the administration of\nfirst aid<\/strong> with hands-only chest\ncompressions.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But as you do this,\nhave someone else call 911 or call 911 before starting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Chocking<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Chocking occurs when a\nforeign object which in most cases is food, gets stuck in the esophagus. This\nusually causes the victim to be unable to talk and breathe properly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chocking obstructs the\nairway and requires fast administration\nof first aid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A choking victim will\nusually gesture towards their throat as they try to talk. In the most severe\ncases, they may black out but will produce wheezing sounds as they struggle to breathe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are alone, you\ncan administer the Heimlich maneuver before calling 911, and if you are in\ncompany, you can have someone else call as you proceed with the administration of first aid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Nose bleeding<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

These are very common\namong both children and adults. Sometimes they are caused by irritation or\ninjury. If you have a nosebleed, you can administer\nfirst aid<\/strong> on yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To do this, sit up and\nmake sure your head is upright. If you have any clothing that is tight on the\nneck, make sure you loosen it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proceed to pinch the\nend of the nose near the nostrils and hold the position for 5 to 20 minutes or\nuntil you feel bleeding has stopped. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the bleeding does\nnot stop after 20 minutes, you should call a doctor or go to the emergency. The\nprolonged bleeding may be as a result of a severe medical issue, and you may\nneed a doctor to stop it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Burns<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Burns can happen\nanywhere and to anybody. The burn injuries may cause damage to your skin and\nother tissues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 If the burn you have is small, chances are it\nwill heal on its own. All you will need to do is run cold water over the burn\nareas for 10 to 20 minutes. Do not add anything such as eggs on the wound; they\nmay only worsen the situation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In case you have a\nburn-related blister, and it pops, cover it with a gauze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the burns are more\nsevere for instance when a car blows up, and the victim\u2019s clothes catch fire,\nhelp them to drop, and roll to put out the fire. Also, help them out of the\nclothes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If they have any tight\nclothing and any jewelry, also help them remove it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the burns are\nsevere, call for help and cover the wounds with a clean cloth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do not apply butter or\nanything else on the wound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The patient can use\nibuprofen, Tylenol or Aleve for the pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyone can get into an\naccident and accidents can also occur anywhere. It is essential for everyone to\nlearn basic first aid techniques that can help them turn emergency situations\ninto lifesaving situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
