A Spotlight on Vaping-linked Lung Conditions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For millennials, vaping\nwas a hip idea until media sources began airing threatening stories of deaths\ncaused by lung conditions related to the use of electronic cigarettes.<\/p>\n\n\n \n\n\n

Then crackdowns\nbegan, and now, what we see is quagmire in the e-cigarette industry as the administration\ncatches up with bad players and states pass new regulations that will turn things\naround.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things Falling Apart for the E-cigarette Sector<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michigan led the fight against harmful forms\nof e-cigs when it became the first state to ban flavored electronic cigarettes\nin early September this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Gov.\nGretchen Whitmer took that move after her leading health executive noted that\nvaping among millennials has some form of threat to public health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soon after, Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York\nsaid his state would follow suit. And who knows which other state will do the\nsame with the increasing public safety concerns?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two weeks ago, Wisconsin police publicized\nthe arrest linked to a drug\nfraud where suspects were accused of filling 3K to 5K illicit THC vaping\ncartridges per day for over two years. Furthermore, the filled vaporizers were\n157 times the THC potency on the label, according to ABC News<\/em>. But itis not\nclear whether the vaporizers were tied to any health conditions or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

States aside, vaping-triggered lung health conditions and deaths<\/a>\nhave been raising concerns at national level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking in a Whitehouse media briefing,\nafter vaping-caused lung conditions claimed the life of the 6th<\/sup> US\ncitizen, President Trump said his government will \u201ctake action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In particular, Trump said his administration\nwill lay down a set of stringent policies and regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been blow after blow for the\nelectronic cigarette merchants as government supervisory bodies from all\ncorners of the nation gang up to address the deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After President Trumps briefing, the next big\nannouncement came from the office of the administrator of Health and Human\nServices. Alex Azar mentioned a proposal to temporarily enforce the prohibition\nof all flavored e-cigarettes until the Food & Drug Administration concludes\nits official analysis in May next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No Conclusive Research to Backup Claims<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All this mayhem continues even in the absence\nof no long-term statistics on the impacts of vaping on health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One would think that the linking of vaping to\nlung conditions is an entirely new discovery, but medical experts have been\nlooking into the matter for some time for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some reports date back to 2014, however, the\nlatest full report on vaping-caused lung disease show there\u2019s a notable rise in\nthe number of sick people from June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Figures\nfrom the report suggest the per-month rate of severe lung ailment observed in\nmillennials admitted to emergency sections in Illinois has grown twofold put\nside by side with 2018\u2019s findings. New York also recorded more cases of severe\nlung illness in millennials than last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nreport indicated increases in June and triggered word from the Center for\nDisease Control CDC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One\nspeculation was that there may be a new element or an alteration in the\ncontents of the THC oil blamed for the increase in vaping-linked health\nconditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nFood & Drug Administration hasn\u2019t narrowed down to one cause of the\ndiseases mentioned the presence of traces of Vitamin E Acetate in the THC-based\nvaporizers from NY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though\nnot any of the NY vaporizers were bought from legitimate marijuana\ndispensaries, on person allegedly lost his life in Oregon because of a vaporizer\nbought from a cannabis dealer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The majority of the cases involved vaping\nTHC, while only a few of the cases were linked to exclusive vaping of nicotine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A\npersuasive theory backed by studies is that vaping cigarettes with nicotine,\nits flavors and solvents\u2014 though not a direct cause of serious lung conditions\u2014\ncan contribute significantly to severe lung damage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So\nthe bottom line is; using vapes can worsen the swelling triggered by THC-based\noil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another\ntheory is that the THC-based oil could be on its own responsible for the severe\nswelling of the lungs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nquestion is how the THC-based oil is leading to lung\ndamage<\/a>. This is a good point to start and try to learn what we don\u2019t\nknow from well known facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\nan attempt to solve this nation-wide public health puzzle, we sampled some of\nthe possible explanations according to experts from West Virginia University\nabout the increasing cases of vaping-linked diseases and deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exploring Possible Causes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rest of this write-up will explore the\nlink between vaping and lung conditions from a medical perspective. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Oils or Lipids in the Lung<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    According to a pulmonary health experts for\nWest Virginia University, oily conditions have a host of negative effects to\nthe human lungs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The\nprofessional referred to a case four years ago when a 30-year-old female\nreported to a healthcare facility with breathing difficulty. Doctors say\nsymptoms resembled pneumonia but a test for the same came out negative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Samples\nof cells from her lungs showed many cells contained an oil-based substances.\nThese new findings then led the suspicions and medical suggested relationship\nbetween the oily substances she used to vape to lung conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The\nexplanation was that when liquids in the vaporizer and glycerol-based solvents and\nother oil-based flavorings are heated and undergo cooling, the resulting\ndrippings can interfere with the normal lung function. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Lungs are sensitive<\/a> to\nthese drippings as well as other chemicals. As a result, it treats them like\nstrange materials and reacts by triggering the immune response to fight these\nleading to the swelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The\nfemale was in the end diagnosed with lipoid pneumonia which an illness common\nin people of age who breath in oils by accident. The condition is not\nassociated to smoking in any way.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The\nconclusion was that the millennial age female would have not developed the\ndisease through any other means except from vaping of electronic cigarettes\nwhich she had admitted to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
